1912年、東京から米国ワシントンDCに3000本の桜が贈られました。それ以来現地で開催されてきたのが全米桜祭り。日米関係がどのような状況にある時でも、桜の存在を通して両国間の友好関係を確かめ合ってきました。

今週、全米桜祭り協会の方々が来日され、日米関係を支えてきた人たちとともにお祝いする機会に恵まれました。

混沌とする世の中でも、やはり人と人のつながりが大切であることを改めて実感しました。

In 1912, 3,000 cherry trees were gifted from Tokyo to Washington, D.C., USA. Since then, the National Cherry Blossom Festival has been held there. Regardless of the state of Japan-U.S. relations, the presence of these cherry trees has served as a constant reminder of the friendship between our two nations.

This week, representatives from the National Cherry Blossom Festival visited Japan, and I had the opportunity to celebrate with those who have supported U.S.-Japan relations.

Even in a chaotic world, I was reminded once again how important human connections truly are.
