昨日と今日は、地域のお祭り。
フィリピンとウズベキスタン出身の学生インターン達と一緒に、子ども神輿のお手伝いをしました。

「わっしょい」って英語でどういう意味？
神輿って何キロくらいあるの？
など、外国人ならではの質問に、たじたじに。

「わっしょい」は人と人が力を合わせて「和を背負う」という精神からきているということや、お神輿の重さを皆で考えるなど、新たな気づきをもらいました。異文化理解とは、こういうことだと思います。

地域のさまざまな場所から、いくつもの神輿が集まるエネルギーは圧巻。まちのみんなで心を一つにする機会が、長く続いていくと良いです。

Yesterday and today were local festivals.
Together with student interns from the Philippines and Uzbekistan, I helped with the children’s portable shrine.

What does “wasshoi” mean in English?

There were questions that only foreigners could find and ask.

We learned that “wasshoi” comes from the spirit of people joining together to “bear harmony,” and we all considered the weight of the mikoshi together, which gave us new insights. I believe this is what cross-cultural understanding is all about.

The energy of several portable shrines coming together from different parts of the community was breathtaking. I hope that this opportunity to unite the hearts of everyone in the town will continue for a long time.
