世田谷区立小学校を舞台にしたドキュメンタリー映画「小学校〜それは小さな社会〜」の山崎エマ監督、エリック・ニアリプロデューサー、主演のあやめさんが区長を表敬訪問されました。

企画から足かけ5年、新型コロナ禍による撮影の延期や海外での上映、日本での上映、そして米国アカデミー賞ノミネートなど、これまでの出来事が走馬灯のように蘇ってきて、感慨深い時間となりました。この作品をきっかけに、日本の教育についてたくさん議論や意見交換がなされてきたことが大きな成果だと思います。

吉祥寺等の映画館他で現在も上映が続いているほか、
米国PBSでの放送も決まったそうです。

Director Ema Yamazaki, producer Eric Nyari, and lead actress Ayame paid a courtesy visit to the mayor of Setagaya City for the documentary film “Making of a Japanese” which is set in an elementary school in Setagaya.

It has been five years since the film was first planned, and it was a deeply moving time as the events of the past came back to life like a running lamp, including the postponement of filming due to the new Corona disaster, the screening overseas, the screening in Japan, and the nomination for an Academy Award in the United States. I think the great achievement of this film is that it has led to many discussions and exchanges of opinions about education in Japan.

The film is still being shown at movie theaters in Kichijoji and other locations,
It has also been selected for broadcast on PBS in the U.S.
