尾山台のまちを作る人たちが開催した、
「東京都未来を創る商店街支援事業活動報告会」
～多様なステークホルダーが主体的に関わるウェルビーイング商店街～に参加させていただきました。

37年前の商店街の写真を見ながら、これまでの変遷をたどり、現在行なっているまちのリビング化、石畳コモンズ化、広報などのプロジェクトについて報告がありました。

まちを使って、商店街、町会、大学、小中学校などの多様な人たちがつながり、何かを生み出し、助け合い、ワクワクしながら暮らしている様子がわかり、たくさんエネルギーをもらいました。

この間、尾山台の街の象徴である石畳を守るための話し合いが行われています。石畳の石は約13万個あることもわかったそうです。その風景を守り、未来につないでいくためには、人も必要だし、お金もかかります。危機的状況にも、決して悲観的にならず、力を出し合って乗り越えようという姿勢に感銘を受けました。

尾山台のまちづくりの取組が参考になって他のまちにもエネルギーが伝わり、そこに住む人たちが主体的に、そして楽しく関わりあいながら成長していく、そんなまちが増えていったら、世田谷は、日本は幸せになると改めて感じました。

I had the opportunity to attend the “Tokyo Metropolitan Future-Creating Shopping District Support Project Activity Report Meeting”
~A Well-Being Shopping District Where Diverse Stakeholders Actively Engage~
hosted by the community builders of Oyamadai.

Looking at photos of the shopping district from 37 years ago, we traced its evolution and heard reports on current projects: transforming the town into a living space, creating a cobblestone commons, and public relations efforts.

Seeing how diverse people connect, create, support each other, and live with excitement using the town gave me so much energy.

Meanwhile, discussions are underway to protect the cobblestones, a symbol of Oyamadai. I learned there are about 130,000 stones. Preserving this landscape and passing it on to the future requires both people and money. I was deeply impressed by the attitude of never becoming pessimistic even in a critical situation, but instead joining forces to overcome it.

I felt once again that if the community development efforts in Oyamadai serve as a reference and spread energy to other towns, and if more towns grow where residents engage proactively and joyfully with each other, then Setagaya, and Japan, will become happier places.
