ポートランド日本庭園・GREENxEXPO2027・東京大学による庭園フォーラム第2弾「なぜ、日本庭園はグローバルなのか？」に参加させていただきました。

日本庭園が国際的に広がりを見せたきっかけとなった万博のこと、日本食と同様に、日本庭園も日本と諸外国で捉え方が違うこと、癒しの要素に留まらず、well-being を高めることによるイノベーションを起こす場所にもなり得ることなど、たくさんの発見がありました。東大の中にありながら、東大生もあまり知らないという「懐徳館庭園」も視察させていただき、庭園の魅力を考え直すきっかけになりました。

The Second Annual TEIEN FORUM was held by the Portland Japanese Garden, GREENxEXPO2027 and the University of Tokyo. The theme was “Japanese Gardens: Why Go Global?”

I learned a lot about Japanese gardens like it was the Expo that triggered the international spread of Japanese gardens, that Japanese gardens, like Japanese food, are perceived differently in Japan and other countries, and that Japanese gardens can be a place for innovation by enhancing well-being, not just a healing element.

We were also able to visit the “Kaitokukan Garden,” which is not well known even among Todai students.
It was a good opportunity to reconsider the attractiveness of gardens.
